Braille Boot Camp is a free three-day accelerated course taught by Gaeir Dietrich. This three-day intensive training is designed to teach participants to read and write grade one braille; and to read grade two braille with a cheat sheet. After the boot camp training, participants will be able to:
- Read and write the braille alphabet
- Understand the pattern and formation of the braille code
- Recognize grade two braille signs
- Use a grade two braille cheat sheet
- Decipher short grade two braille passages
The goal is to promote braille literacy, provide initial training to those involved in accessible media, and inspire further study of the braille code, in an effort, to train more certified Braillists.
If you are a parent of a child with a visual impairment, early intervention provider, teacher, or friend/family of braille readers interested in learning more about braille please consider the Braille Boot Camp. If you are interested in learning uncontracted (Grade I) braille only, a one-day option is available on Monday, August 26. Attending all three days is highly recommended. No prior knowledge of Braille is necessary. Unfortunately, child care will not be provided.
Coffee, tea, water and light snacks will be served. Lunch is on your own. There are nearby places to purchase lunch, or you may bring your brown bag.
