Michigan_department_of_education logo

The Michigan Vision Services Severity Rating Scale and The Michigan Vision Services Severity Rating Scale for Students with Additional Needs were developed to assist teachers of the blind and visually impaired (TVIs) to make service recommendations for students on their caseloads.  It should be stressed that the Severity Rating Scales are not assessment/evaluation instruments, but rather tools for assisting in determining service delivery times.  Guidelines for students with additional disabilities are also included.  Revised in 2012.

There is also a revised edition of the Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale (O&MSRS) and the Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale for Students with Additional Needs (O&MSRS+) (2012)

This page includes the following documents:

  1. Vision Services Severity Rating Scales (VSSRS):  For visual impairment services delivered by teachers and teacher consultants.
  1. VSSRS+:  For visual impairment services delivered by teachers and teacher consultants to students with additional needs.
  1. Orientation & Mobility Severity Rating Scales (O&MSRS):  For orientation and mobility services.
