Pocket People Tactile Books

These tactile books are designed for beginning braille readers.

We make lots of tactile books for all of our students, so that they will have plenty of books to read, alongside their sighted peers.  One student we had always ripped the tactile symbols and objects right off of each page.  After glueing these back on repeatedly, I came up with the idea of creating “pocket people” who could be taken out of a pocket on each page, examined, and put back in the pocket.  This gave the books much longer lives and became one of this student’s favorite things.

Here is one of the books we created.  We included the print and braille, so that the book could be enjoyed with classmates and family members.
