A Sense of Texas Audio Podcast

A Sense of Texas Audio Podcast presents dialogs with families and professionals about services for students who are blind, deafblind or visually impaired.

The Outreach Department at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) hosts a series of podcasts with Emily Coleman, the Director of Outreach.  In the first episode of A Sense of Texas shares the story of her own journey, when her second child was born and she discovered that he was blind.  This prompted her to return to school to become a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and then to continue with her studies in Educational Leadership to learn more about administration.

Emily and her family left Washington state and moved to Texas, so that Emily could accept her current position as the Director of Outreach at TSBVI.  As she navigates the process of learning about new systems and resources, Emily decided to share this journey with others.  The hope is that the podcast series will be a dialog with families and professionals to share information about these resources.

The first episode is a conversation with Cyral Miller, who is Emily’s predecessor.  Cyral describes the history of the TSBVI Outreach program and how it began.
