UEBOT (Unified English Braille Training Online) is a free one month, online training module for people who are already proficient in EBAE (English Braille American Edition). 10 CEU credits are available for free. The course is available on a rolling basis beginning on the first of every month, and will be offered for free for the next four years.
The UEBOT project was developed to meet the unique need of retraining a nation of professionals that instruct and produce braille. The five year transition period puts a tight timeframe on the more than 7,000 individuals that require updated skills to learn UEB (Unified English Braille). The project is sponsored by OSEP (Office of Special Education Programs) and NIU (Northern Illinois University). Collaborators include Benetech, BANA (Braille Authority of North America), AFB (American Foundation for the Blind), AER (Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired) and UMass Boston.
Courses are posted for June through November with a gradually increasing enrollment as follows: June - 50, July - 100, August and on at 200. All courses last 4 weeks and are first come first serve. Registration is now open.
