Tactile Holiday Decorations

Make your holiday decorations tactile and accessible to all children!

As we decorate our classroom doors for Christmas, think about making the design tactile in nature. The picture below is of a life skills classroom that I visit daily. The teacher here decorated the door using high contrast and a 3-dimensional Christmas tree.  My students are able to feel that the tree has layers and many branches. The classroom teacher also has a shorter tree in the classroom for the students to decorate. They held discussions on how to decorate using spatial terminology, such as above, below, next to, left, right.
