LEAP Games Using Binaural Sound

Games for individuals who are blind or visually impaired

LEAP (Listen – LEArn – Play) offers a series of free accessible electronic games designed for children who are blind or visually impaired.  These games are open source and aim to help students with visual impairments to develop spatial orientation skills using binaural sound, while also having fun.  They are available to download for free on different operating systems, in different languages.

Tennis builds on the skills used in the Tic Tac Toe games, such as the use of the keyboard and the movement in the two-dimensional audio space, but also helps students to develop new skills, such as to perceive movement and speed in a three-dimensional audio space and to interact within it (binaural processing).

Curve

In Curve children use the basic keys of the computer keyboard so that they can “hear” the graph of an equation expressed in notes and afterwards to repeat it before the time limit expires. In this way, they develop a sense of the graph through the help of the sound.
