This app was created by the mother of a 10-year-old boy in India who is blind and who has difficulty with spelling. She noted that he is very good at picking up concepts and is a voracious reader, who uses a computer and JAWS. His mother realized that his spelling needed improvement and she decided to create an app for him so that she could help him practice his spellings on the go, on an iPad. She reports that her son has loved the app and does his spelling tests happily. She can email the word lists and he emails back the test results from the app straight away. They have used the accessibility feature of the iOS, Voiceover, as well as a Logitech external keyboard for typing in the word. The app currently sells for $4.99 on iTunes.
She writes: "I would be really happy if more kids could use and give feedback, and let us know how we could make it better. I would be really happy if this site could try and give feedback as well. Yours has been one of the few sites that has helped me in my journey of parenting a visually impaired kid. Useful resources and tips."
We hope you'll let us know if you give this app a try!
NOTE THAT THIS APP IS CURRENTLY NOT AVAILABLE IN THE US iTUNES STORE.
