St. Patrick’s Day Activities

These easy to create St. Patrick's Day activities can be used across grade levels for our students with visual impairments.

St. Patrick’s Day activities are a great way to incorporate learning and fun. These activities are useful for planning instruction and are easy to create. They can be incorporated across grade levels and can even be created/designed by your older students for the younger ones.

Sensory Bin
Sensory bins are an effective tool to work on various pre-braille skills as well as sensory skills. To create your St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin, use green pompoms, gold coins, green and gold bead necklaces, and bury them in a cauldron of rice. Add a rainbow made with textured paper from APH to the cauldron for more sensory input options.

Here are links to items I have already used:

Word Search
Word searches encourage students to use their search/explore techniques both tactically and visually. Create the word search in uncontracted braille using the words below. Use the same words but in print to help students practice using their various magnification tools. I use Worksheets.com, a free resource, to create my print copies and my answer key. A print version can be shared with the student’s classroom teacher for another way to include the student in the classroom activities/celebrations.

March, leprechaun, Irish, green, gold, rainbow, luck, jig, clover, Celtic, seventeenth, Patrick, top hat

Word Scramble
Word scrambles encourage students to use their search/explore techniques both tactically and visually. They also help develop critical thinking skills. Use the same words but in print to help students practice using their various magnification tools. I use Education.com, a free resource, to create my print copies and my answer key. A print version can be shared with the student’s classroom teacher for another way to include the student in the classroom activities/celebrations.

Foam shamrock stickers.

Matching
Use foam shamrock stickers as a matching tool and create matching worksheets for students. You can create simple math problems with the stickers such as 4 + 7 = __, and can create matching worksheets where students count the total number of shamrocks and then find the word representing the number. You can also make the same or different worksheets where they explain why they are the same or different.
Source the stickers from Amazon.com or other locations.
