Getting in Touch with Literacy 2021: POSTPONED

GITWL 2021 logo

We're very sorry to announce that the 2021 Getting in Touch with Literacy conference has been postponed because of on-going concerns about Covid 19. The conference had originally been scheduled for December 1-4, 2021, in St. Pete Beach, Florida.

The organizers sent out the following announcement:

With the proliferation of the COVID-19 Delta variant, we simply will not risk the safety and well-being of our students, our families or ourselves. It would be irresponsible of us to ask our colleagues, vendors, presenters, teachers, and others to travel to and participate in a face-to-face conference at this time.  As we firmly believe the heart and soul of the Literacy Conference is the face-to-face interactions, networking, and relationships that occur, a virtual conference just would not reflect the spirit of the Literacy Conference.  To that end, we are negotiating with the TradeWinds to reschedule the conference for a future date.

This has obviously been a difficult decision.  We have contractual obligations with the TradeWinds that include a cancellation fee.  As most of you are aware, this is a grass-roots organization that depends solely on revenue from the conference and donations.  Without a conference, our coffers are bare! If you would like to make a donation to help sustain the Getting In Touch With Literacy Conference, please use this link: http://www.gettingintouchwithliteracy.org/payment.php.  (You can donate with a credit card or through a Pay Pal Account.)

The TradeWinds will automatically cancel all hotel reservations that were made under the GITWL room block.  If you had already booked a  room and you have not received a cancellation email by September 3, 2021, please contact the hotel directly at 800-360-4016.

Even though we know this decision is best, we are still heartbroken. We were so looking forward to seeing everyone and immersing ourselves in literacy discussions!

Please stay safe and healthy.  Watch your email for further information regarding rescheduled dates.
