National Library Week is April 14-20, 2013 and we celebrate the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS) at The Library of Congress. NLS administers the free program that loans recorded and braille books and magazines, music scores in braille and large print, and specially designed playback equipment to residents of the United States who are unable to read or use standard print materials because of visual or physical impairment. NLS administers the program nationally while direct service to eligible individuals and institutions is the responsibility of cooperating libraries in the various states.
Have a look at What's New for information about web-braille and BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Download).
Search Kids Books to find audio, braille, and print/braille books for preschool through grade 8 in the NLS catalog in these formats:
- digital audio
- digital braille
- digital text
- large print
- press braille
We salute all of the libraries around the country that provide books in accessible formats to individuals who are blind or visually impaired!
