Assistive Technology is March’s ECC Focus Challenge

As part of a year long ECC monthly focus, March challenges us in the area of assistive technology.

Assistive Technology (AT) encompasses the knowledge and skills that are essential to use the equipment, programs, or products needed to access all aspects of daily living (ECC Essentials, Assistive Technology, Chapter 6). AT can be low-tech like a communication board, or high-tech such as a screen reader on a computer like VoiceOver or JAWS.

Know. Understand. Do.

A framework to guide learning activities

Know (K): Tends to be binary. Either you know it or you don’t. Examples: Facts & Dates, Definitions, People & Places

Understand (U): Is a continuum; from novice to advanced. Examples: Big Ideas, Essential Questions, Generalizations.

Do (D): Show they understand and the application of skills/content

I can utilize assistive technology to increase my productivity and independence .
