Objective

Help students practice writing and mailing letters in a fun, tactile way.

This tactile, hands-on approach builds literacy, life skills, and emotional awareness, all while supporting new braille students or students learning pre-writing skills, in a creative and interactive way.

This activity also fosters important life skills like responsibility and organization, while encouraging emotional growth by teaching the joy of giving and receiving letters. It’s an engaging way to build literacy, empathy, and self-expression.

A small cardboard mailbox that is like a large real mailbox.

This activity includes a play mailbox made from cardboard, designed to allow students to practice writing and sending letters in a tactile way. The kit features felt envelopes with removable stamps and “To/From” labels that can be attached with Velcro, making the process hands-on and engaging. Additionally, there are sticker hearts for sealing the envelopes, adding a fun, creative touch to the activity. A mirror is included, allowing students to reflect on themselves while considering the emotional experience of sending and receiving letters. This activity promotes letter writing skills, self-expression, and empathy.
