Directions to Download a BRF

Follow these step-by-step directions to download a Braille Ready Format (BRF) file.

Shortcut Version

In order to download a file in Braille Ready Format (BRF), follow the directions below:

  • Right click on the file link.
  • Select “Save link as …”.
  • Select the location where you want to save it.
  • Open the file from the folder where you saved it.

Longer Version

Users have recently reported an issue that BRF (Braille-Ready Format) files no longer download automatically. We have noticed that these files now open automatically as ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange).  For example, here, if you click on the green highlighted text of Lesson 1 Activities.brf, it will take you to this ASCII file. (Note the image below is a screenshot and is not an active link.)

Download BRF Files

In order to download the braille-ready format, follow these steps:

  1. In Chrome on a MacBook, you can right click on the link, which will open this screen:

  1. Click on “Save Link as…”
  1. That will open this screen:

  1. Choose where you would like to save your file (Desktop, etc.) and you should be able to find it there.
