Homemade Tactile Drawing Board

Directions on how to make a tactile drawing board for children who are blind or visually impaired

Tactile drawing boards are available commercially, but are also easy to make yourself with just some screen, cardboard, and tape.  Children who are blind or visually impaired can then color with crayons, colored pencils or markers by placing a sheet of paper on the screen and receive tactile feedback of what they have drawn.

Materials:

  • a piece of cardboard larger than a piece of paper
  • duct tape
  • screening (like window screening)
  • scissors (to cut the screening and cardboard)
