Immersive Simulation of Visual Impairments Using a Wearable See-through Display

New simulation tool helps simulate visual impairments

This qualitative research study by Halim Cagrı Ates, Alexander Fiannaca, and Eelke Folmer in the Computer Science department at the University of Nevada focuses on the use of an simulation tool (SIMVIZ). The device mounts a wide angle camera on a head-mounted display to simulate various types and levels of visual impairments.  A qualitative user study evaluates the immersiveness, usability and effectiveness of SIMVIZ versus using a smartphone-based simulator.
