Monthly ECC Challenge for the 2025-26 School Year

Welcome to the 25 – 26 school year ECC Challenge!

Review the list of activities and select one or choose your own! Check out the resource links that go along with each. Anyone can participate that is working with blind or low vision students. “Teacher” in the sections can refer to a TVI or any other teacher/support role.

To submit for a chance to win a gift card each month follow the link to MSB TVI portal.

What is ECC?

Expanded Core Curriculum is used to define concepts and skills that often require specialized instruction with students who are blind or visually impaired in order to compensate for decreased opportunities to learn incidentally by observing others, as explained by TSBVI. I have created videos for each area linked below.

August/September ECC challenge: Self-Determination

Month ECC mantra: It is my responsibility to sign up for activities I am interested in.

Self-determination focuses on the skills that enable students to advocate effectively for their own needs and goals. Components that are important within self-determination are: self-knowledge, self-advocacy, empowerment, assertiveness, informed decision making, problem solving and goal setting, self-directed and self-regulated behavior.” -Allman, Carol B., et al.
