7 Steps to Creating an Accessible Word Document

This 21-page document from the Disability Access Services of the California Department of Rehabilitation lists seven steps to create an accessible document in Microsoft Word.  The steps are as follows:

  1. Use appropriate font style and size.
  2. Use color appropriately.
  3. Add alternative text and captions.
  4. Specify column header rows in tables.
  5. Use meaningful hyperlink text.
  6. Use built-in formatting styles.
  7. Check accessibility.
