Millie Smith

Millie Smith is a pioneer and nationally known expert in the assessment and education of children with visual impairments and significant multiple disabilities. Formerly a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, she currently instructs professionals and parents. 

She is the author of Teaching Students With Visual and Multiple Impairments: A Resource Guide (TSBVI, 1996) and has created many foundational materials for the field. She developed SAM: Symbols and Meaning for American Printing House for the Blind (APH), and, more recently, Sensing and Learning (APH, 2023). She is a leader in the field in addressing the needs of sensorimotor learners who have visual impairments.
