Mathematics Made Easy: Instructional Videos

This Mathematics Package for Teachers presents a series of instructional videos for educators and families of students with visual impairment.

The International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI) has launched the YouTube channel  “Mathematics Made Easy” which showcases 30 instructional mathematics videos.  ICEVI CEO, Dr M.N.G. Mani has worked on this project since 2016 with an international advisory committee of professionals in the field of mathematics and vision impairment.   The target audience for the instructional videos includes teacher training institutes, educators and families who support students with vision impairment to successfully participate and achieve in mathematics at primary and secondary school. Additional videos will be uploaded.

Building upon the earlier publication (2005) Mathematics Made Easy for Children with Visual Impairment, Dr. Mani led a team to create instructional videos to enable teachers to present mathematical concepts in a way to make them accessible to students who are blind or visually impaired.

Project Background

The Nippon Foundation is supporting ICEVI in implementing a project on higher education for visually impaired students in the East Asia region. The Math project is part of the higher education project to prepare video instructional materials in mathematics to teach visually impaired children at the primary and secondary levels. The project believes that effective teaching of mathematics to visually impaired children will help them to study science related courses at the higher level and the knowledge in mathematics is also imperative in augmenting their employment opportunities.  The objective of this project is to prepare at least 150 videos by 2020.

The YouTube channel was jointly launched on September 4, 2019 by Larry Campbell, President Emeritus ICEVI, and Todd Reeves, CEO, Overbrook School for the Blind (OSB), Philadelphia.
