Sara Borlie is an educational consultant, TVI, and COMS for the Outreach department at Maryland School for the Blind. She has more than 20 years experience working in the field of visual impairments. Upon retiring from the United States Air Force as a respiratory therapist, she obtained a bachelor’s degree from college of Mount St Joseph in Special Education with an emphasis on moderate to intensive educational needs. Then Sara went to Vanderbilt University, to obtain a Master’s degree in special education with an emphasis on Visual Impairments. She has been a self-contained classroom teacher, teaching both functional and academic skills as well as an Itinerant teacher for students with visual impairments. Later she obtained an additional Master’s degree from UMass Boston in the area of visual impairments obtaining dual certifications in both O&M and Vision Rehab Therapy.
Currently Sara consults for the Maryland School for the Blind Outreach department completing assessments, providing teacher and parent trainings, as well as providing direct services to students across the state and teaching short courses in a variety of areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum. Sara’s passion is teaching skills or providing support to teams that will ultimately lead to greater student independence.
