Dwila Nixon
Dwila Nixon retired from her position as a Qualified Teacher of Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired (QTVI) with Regina Public Schools in 2026. In her professional role, she worked with students aged 3-21 years, co-chaired two provincial INSIGHT conferences, and supported four master’s degree students who are now employed by the Program for Students with Visual Impairments (PSVI) in Regina Public Schools. Dwila co-coordinated two trips for students with visual impairments from Saskatchewan, Canada to attend Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCIVIS) in Huntsville, Alabama.
Dwila is a keen advocate for human rights, and a strong supporter of braille literacy. She wrote an article about “newbies who braille” for BLC (then CBA) in 2010 and attended the UEB Summit in Vancouver in 2012. More recently, she spent six years volunteering as a Director for Braille Literacy Canada.
